カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)の開幕までは2カ月を切った中、9月には各国が大会前最後の活動を行っている。

今回の活動では、W杯のメンバー入りする選手がどうなるのかなど気になる点が多々ある中、新ユニフォームのお披露目という観点でも各国のファンが注目している。

W杯に向けて日本代表も新ユニフォームを発表。「ORIGAMI」のコンセプトは好評で、世界でも高く評価を受けている。

一方で、ナイキ製のユニフォームはどの国でもひどい評価を受けており、あまり好意的には受け入れられていない状況となっている。

そんな中、選手たちもナイキに対して抗議を行った。それがカナダ代表だ。

1986年のメキシコ大会以来、9大会ぶりにW杯に出場することとなるカナダ。ホスト国であるカタール代表との親善試合を行い、0-2で勝利を収めていた。

しかし、この試合の2点目を決めたジョナサン・デイビッドがゴールパフォーマンスで右胸に手を当て、ナイキのマークを意図的に隠すパフォーマンスを披露。これは抗議の意を示しているという。

その理由は1つ。カナダ代表は、W杯に向けたユニフォームを制作してもらえていないのだ。

各国が刷新する中、カナダのユニフォームはこれまでと同じもの。ナイキの発表でも「2022年のカナダのキットは、カナダサッカーのキット開発サイクルが異なるため、過去1年間使用してきたものと同じものになる」と説明している。

あまり納得の行く説明とは言えない状況。選手たちも他国の選手たちが新たなユニフォームを纏っているのを目にして羨ましい部分もあるだろう。

ユニフォームは収益にも大きく貢献するだけに、久々のW杯出場となれば多く売れたはず。選手が抗議したくなる気持ちも理解できるだろう。

カナダ代表が新監督にジェシー・マーシュ氏を招へい、韓国も狙っていた指揮官

カナダサッカー協会(CSA)は13日、アメリカ人指揮官のジェシー・マーシュ氏(50)が同国代表の新監督に就任したことを発表した。契約期間は2026年の北中米ワールドカップ(W杯)終了までとなる。カナダ代表では2018年1月から指揮を執ってきたジョン・ハードマン監督が、2023年8月にトロントFCへ引き抜かれる形で退任。その後はアシスタントコーチのマウロ・ビエロ氏が暫定監督を務めている状態が続いていた。新監督に就任したマーシュ氏は、2009年に現役生活を引退すると指導者の道に進み、引退直後にアメリカ代表のボブ・ブラッドリー監督の下でアシスタントコーチに就任。その後、メジャーリーグ・サッカー(MLS)のモントリオール・インパクト(現CFモントリオール)やニューヨーク・レッドブルズ、レッドブル・ザルツブルク、RBライプツィヒなどで監督を歴任した。 2022年2月からリーズ・ユナイテッドの指揮官に就任すると就任初年度は低迷していたチームをプレミアリーグ残留に成功させたが、積極補強して臨んだ翌シーズンは第20節終了時点で4勝6分け10敗の17位と低迷。成績不振を理由に昨年2月にリーズの監督を解任されていた。ユルゲン・クリンスマン監督が退任してから監督が不在だった韓国代表の指揮官候補点されていたが、交渉が難航していると報じられていた。 2024.05.14 08:15 Tue
