ビラのジェラード監督、ヤングとの契約延長を示唆「交渉は始まっている」

アストン・ビラのスティーブン・ジェラード監督が、元イングランド代表DFアシュリー・ヤング(36)との契約更新を示唆している。

昨夏にインテルを退団し、10年ぶりにビラ復帰を果たしたヤング。36歳で迎えた今シーズンはここまで23試合に出場しており、豊富な経験を頼りに、本職である左サイドバックのほか、逆の右サイドバックやセントラルMFなど、様々なポジションでポリバレントな活躍を見せている。

昨年11月に就任したジェラード監督も大きな信頼を寄せており、就任からの21試合中10試合で先発起用している。いぶし銀の存在感を放つヤングとの契約は今夏までとなっているが、イギリス『タイムズ』の取材で延長に向けた交渉に入っていることを明かした。

「アッシュにはまだ一緒にいて欲しい。私の考えは明白だ。すでに交渉は行われているよ。鍵となるのは、彼が常に選手であれること、幸せなこと、ここに残りたいと思っていることだ」

「まだ話し合うことがたくさんあり、急いでいるわけでもないが、我々が彼に非常に満足していることは明らかだ」

アストン・ビラがスタジアム改修をスタート、ユーロ2028の会場となり5万人収容に変貌へ
