U-24仏代表OAのサヴァニエが東京五輪へ意気込む「メダルを獲得するために東京に行く」

東京オリンピックに臨むU-24フランス代表にオーバーエイジ枠で招集されたモンペリエMFテジ・サヴァニエ(29)が、大会への意気込みを語った。フランス『レキップ』が伝えている。

各クラブの派遣拒否によって混迷を極めた代表選考の中、サヴァニエはメキシコのティグレスUNALでプレーするFWアンドレ=ピエール・ジニャック(35)、FWフロリアン・トヴァン(28)と共にオーバーエイジ枠での参戦が決定した。

現在、フランス代表が拠点を置くクレールフォンテーヌで代表チームのトレーニングに合流中の29歳は、突然の代表招集を振り返っている。

「あの時期はキャンプに行ったり、仲間と飲んだりしていたんだ。だから、オリンピックに出場できるかどうかなんて、まったく考えていなかったよ」

「(シルヴァン・リポル)監督から電話があったとき、本当に驚いたよ。とても嬉しかったのは確かだけど、驚きの方が大きかったね。ただ、監督が自分を頼りにしてくれていることがわかったんだ」

予想外の形でメンバー入りを果たしたサヴァニエだが、今大会でのメダル獲得に向けて全力を尽くすことを約束している。

「僕らはメダルを獲得するために東京に行く。綺麗なフットボールを見せるだけでは何の意味もないからね」

「みんなの頭の中には向こうでその目標を達成するということ以外、何もないはずだよ」

モンペリエ下部組織出身のサヴァニエは、ニーム時代の2018-19シーズンのリーグ・アンでアシスト王に輝いた国内屈指のゲームメイカー。

171cmと体格に恵まれていないものの、背筋がピンと伸びた美しい持ち上がりから視野の広さと戦術眼を生かした絶妙なパスでチャンスを演出すれば、高精度の右足のプレースキックやミドルシュートで自らゴールも奪える玄人好みのセントラルMFだ。

ロマの血を受け継ぎ故郷のモンペリエを安住の地と定めているため、今後の移籍の可能性は低いが、国内のビッグクラブや国外のクラブでも十分に活躍できる能力を有している。

7月22日に開幕する東京オリンピックの男子サッカー競技において、フランスはグループAに入り、開催国の日本、南アフリカ、メキシコと同居している。

【2018-19リーグ・アン・シーズン総括】最優秀選手はムバッペ!

★リール躍進もPSGが余裕の連覇! 「フランス代表を引退しようとした」ムバッペが告白「猿呼ばわりされて…」
