エストゥディアンテスの元アルゼンチン代表MFハビエル・マスチェラーノ(36)が現役引退を表明した。クラブが発表している。マスチェラーノはリーベル・プレートでプロデビュー後、コリンチャンスを経て、2006年夏のウェストハム移籍を機に欧州進出。リバプールで元イングランド代表MFのスティーブン・ジェラード氏らとともに中盤の軸を担い、2010年夏からバルセロナに活躍の場を移した。
そのバルセロナで本職のボランチとしてでなく、センターバックとして地位を築き、4度のラ・リーガ制覇や2度のチャンピオンズリーグ(CL)優勝に貢献するなどして、2018年1月に河北華夏入り。2019年12月からエストゥディアンテスに加わり、母国復帰を果たした。
また、アルゼンチン代表としても通算147キャップを記録。2006年のドイツから4大会連続でワールドカップ(W杯)メンバーに選ばれ、全7試合にフル出場した2014年のブラジル大会で準優勝に貢献した。
マスチェラーノは15日に行われたスーペルリーガ・アルヘンティーナ第3節のアルヘンティノス・ジュニアーズ戦後、現役引退の意向を明らかにした。
「クラブの状況や結果とは関係なく、ここ数年に感じていたのはサッカー選手であるという幻想が薄れ始めているということだ。パンデミックが終われば元に戻るだろうと思っていたが、そう感じられなかった。すべての人に敬意を払って、身を引き、このキャリアを終わらせるときが来た。このタイミングを逃したくなかったんだ」

リバプールorバルセロナ? マスチェラーノがより愛着抱くのは…

マキシ・ロペスが元妻ワンダ・ナラとディナーに…かつてイカルディと不倫され離婚も「幸せであり続けて欲しい」

メッシと妻は30年来の仲、幼馴染の2人が結ばれW杯で優勝するまで

21世紀の出場試合数ランキング発表! 首位は1145試合のC・ロナウド、トップ10に日本人選手がランクイン
