開幕4連勝を達成したアストン・ビラのディーン・スミス監督が喜びを露わにしている。クラブ公式サイトがコメントを伝えた。

アストン・ビラは18日、プレミアリーグ第5節でレスター・シティと対戦した。昨季の1部昇格から2年目を迎えた同クラブは、開幕節のマンチェスター・シティ戦は、相手の過密日程を考慮して延期されているものの、今季初戦となったシェフィールド・ユナイテッド戦以降、開幕3連勝中だ。

前節はリバプールを7-2で下し、歴史的金星を獲得。その勢いのまま乗り込んだキングパワー・スタジアムでは、互いに決定機を作りながらも試合は終盤までゴールレスで推移していく。だが、後半アディショナルタイムに、今夏チェルシーからレンタル加入したMFロス・バークリーが値千金のミドルシュートを突き刺し劇的勝利。

アストン・ビラにとって開幕4連勝は1930-31シーズン以来、実に90年ぶり。この快挙にスミス監督も選手たちを手放しで称賛した。
