2度のW杯制覇にロンドン五輪金メダリスト、アメリカ女子代表のレジェンドであるモーガンが35歳で引退

アメリカ女子代表のレジェンドであるサンディエゴ・ウェーブのFWアレックス・モーガン(35)が5日、自身のXで現役引退を発表した。

モーガンはアメリカ女子代表として224試合出場123ゴールをマーク。ワールドカップでは2015年と2019年の優勝に貢献。オリンピックでは2012年ロンドン五輪で金メダルを獲得していた。しかし、先のパリ・オリンピックではメンバーから落選していた。第2子を授かっていることも明かしたモーガンは引退を受けて以下のようにコメントした。

｢引退の決断は簡単ではなかった。でも、今年に入って2024年シーズンが私がプレーする最後の年になるだろうなと感じていた。サッカーは30年間プレーした私の一部であり、最初に愛したもの。このスポーツに全てを捧げたけど、その見返りとして得たものは夢見ていた以上のものだった｣

なお、8日のノースカロライナ・カレッジとの対戦が引退試合になる。
