『BT Sport』の公式インスタグラムがとある動画を公開。これが大きな話題を呼んでいる。

その動画は、『BT Sport』のスタジオで解説を務める元イングランド代表のレジェンドたちがクリケットに興じるというものだった。

参加していたのは、ギャリー・リネカー、フランク・ランパード、リオ・ファーディナンド、ポール・スコールズ、スティーブン・ジェラードの5名。いずれもイングランドサッカー界を代表するレジェンドたち。4年前の映像だが、最近、再び投稿された。

彼らは『BT Sport』のサッカー中継で解説などを務めているが、そのスタジオでサッカーと同様にイングランドでも人気のスポーツであるクリケットに挑戦しているのだ。

クリケットとはなかなか日本では馴染みがないが、世界ではサッカーに次いで2番目に競技人口が多いスポーツと言われており、イギリスやオーストラリアの他、インド、パキスタン、スリランカといった南アジア諸国で大人気のスポーツだ。

プロのトッププレーヤーともなれば30億円とも言われる年俸をもらうほど。4年に1度ワールドカップも開催され、テレビ視聴者数もサッカーに次いで多いと言われている競技だ。

大まかなルールは野球と似ており、ボウラー(投手)がボールを投げ、バッツマン(打者)がそれを打ち、フィールダーと呼ばれる守備の選手が打球を取るというもの。その他、クリケットならではのルールは存在する。

そのクリケットに興じた5人だが、ファーディナンド以外の4人が投手と打者を体験。元アスリートだけに、遊び半分でやりながらも徐々に真剣さが増していく。

それぞれがしっかりとボールを打つことができているが、ランパードはワンバウンドさせて投げるボールに思いっきり空振り。キャッチャーの位置にいたファーディナンドも驚いてしまうほど。一方で、ジェラードは完璧な打球を打つなど、サッカー以外の競技でも運動神経の良さを見せた。

5人それぞれが楽しそうにクリケットを楽しむ姿は微笑ましいもの。特にリネカー以外の4名はイングランド代表の同僚であり、プレミアリーグで鎬を削った仲だけに、久々に集まった同級生同士の遊びのようにすら見えてくる。レジェンドたちの楽しみながらも真剣に勝負する姿は一見の価値ありだ。

相手が恐れる右手…ストライカーの完成形と呼ばれた男、アラン・シアラー

ベッカムがウェンブリーでファーガソンと再会!息子ロメオも笑顔で2ショット

北中米W杯の欧州予選組み合わせ決定! 12カ国+POの4カ国が出場権獲得、来年3月からスタート【2026年北中米W杯欧州予選】
