リネカー氏が「あの名言」に終止符! イングランド代表の勝利を祝福

元イングランド代表FWのギャリー・リネカー氏が自身のTwitterで"あの名言"について言及した。

イングランドは29日に行われたユーロ2020ラウンド16でドイツ代表と対戦。75分にFWラヒーム・スターリングのゴールで先制に成功すると、FWハリー・ケインに待望の今大会初ゴールが生まれてリードを広げ、2-0で勝利している。

イングランドとドイツは過去、様々なシーンで凌ぎを削り合ってきた間柄。1966年のワールドカップ(W杯)で西ドイツとの決勝戦を制して優勝したイングランドだが、それ以降は1970年、1990年、2010年のW杯と1996年のユーロで苦杯を喫しており、イングランドにとって長い間天敵のような存在だった。

リネカー氏も1990年のイタリアW杯準決勝の西ドイツ戦で、PK戦の末に敗れた試合後に「サッカーはとてもシンプルだ。22人の選手が90分間にわたってボールを追うスポーツ。そして最後にはドイツが勝つ」と語っており、多くのサッカーファンに名言として知られている。

しかし、今大会で因縁の相手に勝利したことで、この名言に終止符を打つとツイートした。

「"最後にはドイツが勝つ"なんて言葉はこれっきりにしよう。安らかに眠ってほしいね」

また、2018年のロシアW杯でドイツ代表のグループステージ敗退が決まった時には「サッカーはとてもシンプルだ。22人の選手が90分間にわたってボールを追うスポーツ。そして最後にはドイツが勝つとは限らない...それは過去の話だ」ともツイートしており、話題を呼んでいたリネカー氏。彼の名言の使い回しはこれからも続きそうだ。

北中米W杯の欧州予選組み合わせ決定! 12カ国+POの4カ国が出場権獲得、来年3月からスタート【2026年北中米W杯欧州予選】
