アストン・ビラは12日、ジャマイカ代表FWレオン・ベイリー(26)との契約延長を発表した。契約期間については長期契約とだけ明かしている。
ベイリーは2021年夏にレバークーゼンからビラに加入。初年度こそ負傷もあって思うような出場機会を得られていなかったが、昨シーズンはプレミアリーグで33試合出場4ゴール4アシストの成績を残した。
昨夏には同ポジションにフランス代表FWムサ・ディアビがやってきたこともあり、退団の噂がありながらもビラに残留。迎えた今シーズンは先発機会こそプレミアリーグで10試合と多くはないが、途中出場で重要な働きを見せることが多くここまで公式戦31試合10ゴール9アシストの好成績をマークしている。
ウナイ・エメリ監督に率いられたビラは、今シーズンのプレミアリーグで24試合を消化して5位の好位置に。クラブは主力との契約延長が相次いでおり、ベイリーの契約延長も上位争いをするチームに大きな追い風となりそうだ。
