マンチェスター・シティを退団するベルギー代表MFケビン・デ・ブライネ(33)だが、メジャーリーグ・サッカー(MLS)のシカゴ・ファイアーが新天地の最有力候補だという。『The Athletic』が伝えた。

10シーズンを過ごし、数々のタイトル獲得に貢献してきたデ・ブライネ。しかし、クラブからの契約延長の話はなく、契約満了を迎える今シーズン終了後に退団することが決定した。

世界屈指のゲームメーカーであるデ・ブライネだが、移籍先の有力候補はMLSのクラブに絞られている状況。当初は、インテル・マイアミがディスカバリー権(優先交渉権)を保有していた。
しかし、サラリーキャップ外で獲得できるデジグネイティッド・プレーヤー(DP)の3枠がリオネル・メッシ、セルヒオ・ブスケッツ、ジョルディ・アルバで埋まっている状況だ。

一方で、シカゴ・ファイアーはDCユナイテッド、ニューヨーク・シティFCとともに獲得に関心を持っているとされているクラブの1つ。関係者によれば、交渉権を握っているようだ。
シカゴ・ファイアーは、元アメリカ代表監督でもあるグレッグ・バーハルター監督の指揮下でチーム刷新を進めている状況。かつてはバイエルンやマンチェスター・ユナイテッドでプレーした元ドイツ代表MFバスティアン・シュヴァインシュタイガーも所属したことがあり、直近ではバイエルンやリバプールでプレーした元スイス代表MFジェルダン・シャキリもプレーしていた。
