スペイン戦を前にドイツ『Die Welt』のインタビューに応じた守護神は、代表やクラブのユニフォームを脱ぐことを考えているかという問いに回答。「少なくとも今ではない」と述べ、目の前の決戦に集中していると主張した。
「正直なところ、辞めることは考えていない。『これが最後の大会になるかもしれない』と常に自分に言い聞かせていたら、自分を抑制しプレッシャーをかけることになると思う」
「精神的に全く良くない。だからこそ、今回のスペイン戦のような大一番を毎回楽しみにしている」
「絶対にとは言えないけど、サウジアラビアやカタールには移籍しないだろう。どちらかと言えば、MLSが選択肢の1つだ。そこでプレーしていたバスティアン・シュバインシュタイガーとそのことについて話したことがある」
「慎重に検討する必要はある。人工芝でプレーすることが多くなるし、ゴールキーパーにとって理想的ではないからね」

スケッチャーズがサッカースパイク界に進出!契約第1号はバイエルン移籍のイングランド代表FWケイン
