イングランド代表のガレス・サウスゲイト監督が、所属クラブで出番が限られる2選手への警告を発した。イギリス『サン』が伝えている。

イングランドサッカー協会(FA)は24日、来月16日にアウェイでマルタ代表と、19日にホームで北マケドニア代表と対戦するユーロ2024予選に向けて代表メンバー25名を発表した。

キャプテンであるトッテナムのFWハリー・ケインを筆頭として、アーセナルのFWブカヨ・サカ、ウェストハムのMFデクラン・ライス、マンチェスター・シティのDFカイル・ウォーカーなど各ポジションの軸が順当に選出され、初招集はクリスタル・パレスの24歳MFエベレチ・エゼ1名となった。
その一方で、代表チームに居場所を確保しながらも、所属クラブで出場機会が少ない2選手も選出されている。マンチェスター・ユナイテッドのDFハリー・マグワイア、マンチェスター・シティのMFカルヴァン・フィリップスだ。

サウスゲイト監督は昨年のカタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)を含め、ここ1年は必ず2選手を招集リストに加えてきたが、やはりそれぞれのクラブでの現状は気がかりな様子。代表チームに必要な存在だと明言しつつも、このままではいつか外すことになると語った。
「今の状況が永遠に続くわけではないだろう。2人は我々のチームにとって大切な選手だし、フィリップスで言えば、彼のように[4-3-3]のアンカーで強みを発揮できる選手はそうそういない」

「だが、この状況が長引くようなら、私の懸念も大きくなる。例えば今回チョイスしたC・パレスのDFマーク・グエイ、ブライトン&ホーヴ・アルビオンのDFルイス・ダンク、アストン・ビラのDFタイロン・ミングス…彼らは決して国際経験が豊富ではない。それでも毎週良いプレーをしている」

たとえ中堅クラブの選手でも活躍していれば選ぶよ、と実例を示したサウスゲイト監督。「私の役割は競争に打ち勝った選手を探すこと」とも語る。マグワイアとフィリップス、信頼を寄せてくれる指揮官のためにも、まずはクラブキャリアで現状を打破したいところだ。

北中米W杯の欧州予選組み合わせ決定! 12カ国+POの4カ国が出場権獲得、来年3月からスタート【2026年北中米W杯欧州予選】

フランスW杯の戦犯が…ベッカム史上最高のFKから20年「特別な瞬間だった」

相手が恐れる右手…ストライカーの完成形と呼ばれた男、アラン・シアラー

元ユナイテッドSDがFAに復帰…新設のチーフ・フットボール・オフィサーに就任

元マンチェスター・ユナイテッドのスポーツディレクター(SD)、ダン・アシュワース氏が、イングランドサッカー協会(FA)に復帰することになった。 FAは14日、アシュワース氏が新設のチーフ・フットボール・オフィサーに就任すると発表。同職ではイングランド代表の男女チームと緊密に連携していくことになるという。 昨年12月にユナイテッドのSDをわずか5カ月で退任したアシュワース氏。それ以前にはブライトン&ホーヴ・アルビオン、ニューカッスルで手腕を発揮しており、国内外のクラブからのオファーも想定されていたが、2018年まで6年間に渡って勤務していたFAに復帰することになった。 アシュワース氏は、セント・ジョージズ・パークの再開発を監督し、2028年に開催されるユーロ2028の共催に向け、競技施設とピッチの改善を目指す。 さらに、この新役職は、男子フットボールのテクニカルディレクターであるジョン・マクダーモット氏と緊密に連携するとともに、FAの最高経営責任者(CEO)であるマーク・ブリンガム氏とも連携する。 また、イングランド国内の地元出身のコーチの育成にも携わる予定だという。 2025.05.15 16:30 Thu
