11月29日、カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)グループB最終節のイラン代表vsアメリカ代表が行われ、0-1でアメリカが勝利した。

ここまで1勝1敗でグループ2位のイランと、2分けでグループ3位のアメリカ。押し気味にゲームを進めたアメリカは38分にクリスチャン・プリシッチのゴールで先制すると、イランの終盤の猛攻を耐えしのいで2大会ぶりのグループステージ突破を決めた。

歓喜のアメリカとは対照的に、敗退が決まったイランは悲しみに暮れることに。第2節のウェールズ代表戦でダメ押しのゴールを挙げた右サイドバックのラミン・レザイアンも、試合後には涙を浮かべた。

そこへ声をかけたのがアメリカ代表の左サイドバック、A・ロビンソンだ。試合中にもマッチアップしたライバルへ歩み寄ると、声をかけて優しく抱擁。レザイアンもしばらく顔をうずめたのち、応えるかのように背中をたたいた。

互いを思い合うワンシーンには、ファンからも「涙が出ました」、「真のスポーツマンシップとクラス」、「とても美しい瞬間です」、「私たちの世界には善良な人間がいます」、「これが国際スポーツの意義」、「フェアプレーの真髄」などの賛辞が相次いだ。

将来が嘱望された女子大生GKが22歳で他界…スタンフォード大学の寮で見つかる

コパ・アメリカの組み合わせ決定! 北中米6カ国も参加しアメリカで開催【コパ・アメリカ2024】
