レアル・マドリーのドイツ代表DFアントニオ・リュディガーは、カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)で得る報酬を自身のルーツがあるシエラレオネの子供たちのために寄付することを決断した。
カタールW杯で日本代表、スペイン代表、コスタリカ代表と同じグループEに入るドイツ。リュディガーはそのドイツのディフェンスラインを牽引する一人だ。
ドイツ人の父とシエラレオネ人の母の下、ベルリンで生まれ育った29歳は、母の出身地であるシエラレオネと強い結びつきを持っており、今回のW杯では自身が得る報酬を寄付することを決断した。
リュディガーは母親のリリーさんが住んでいるシエラレオネのルーンサルに慈善団体を持っており、今回のW杯後にはその慈善団体を通じて先天性疾患である内反足の11人の子供たちの手術費用を寄付するという。
リュディガーはスペイン『マルカ』で今回の決断を説明している。
「ドイツではシエラレオネで不遇を味わった多くの人々がチャンスを与えられてきた。僕はこれらのチャンスに感謝しているし、自分が特権的な立場にあることにとても感謝している。ここで支援できることは、自分にとっても名誉なことなんだ。今後も家族とともに、シエラレオネでさらに多くのプロジェクトを実施したいと考えているよ」

クラブの発表によると、リュディガーは29日に左ヒザ外側半月板の部分断裂の手術を受けたとのこと。無事に手術が完了したとのことだ。

美しい日本、ドイツ撃破後のピカピカのロッカールームが世界で話題に…“ありがとう”の手紙と折り鶴

イスラム過激派組織と関係があるとされたリュディガーが記者を訴え「イスラム主義者として侮辱され、中傷されることを許さない」
