アストン・ビラの女子チームに所属する元イングランド女子代表DFアニタ・アサンテ(36)が今シーズン限りでの引退を表明した。アーセナルの育成組織出身のアサンテは、2003-04シーズンにファーストチームへと昇格した。2000年代に一時代を築き上げたアーセナルの一員として数々のタイトルを獲得し、リーグでは加入後のシーズンから5連覇を達成。2006-07シーズンにはUEFA女子カップ(現:女子チャンピオンズリーグ/UWCL)を含むクアドラプル(※1)も達成し、5シーズンで12個のタイトルを獲得した。
2008–09シーズンにはチェルシーへと移籍し、以降はアメリカやスウェーデンのクラブでプレー。再びのチェルシーを経て2020-21シーズンからは初昇格を果たしたアストン・ビラへ加入。ボランチやセンターバックとしてFW岩渕真奈とともにプレーしている。
イングランド代表としても71試合2得点を記録し、2度のワールドカップ(W杯)、3度の女子ユーロを経験。なでしこジャパンが優勝した2011年の女子ドイツW杯では、日本に唯一土を付けた試合にも出場している。翌年のロンドン・オリンピックにもイギリス女子代表として参加した。
