オーストラリア代表のDFトレント・セインズベリーが、日本代表戦を振り返った。オーストラリア『FOX Sports』が伝えた。24日、カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)アジア最終予選でホームに日本を迎えたオーストラリア。グループ3位に位置しているものの、日本、そして29日のサウジアラビア代表戦で連勝すればW杯出場が決定する。
一方で、日本戦に敗れるとプレーオフに回ることが決定するという状況で試合に臨んだ。
大雨が降る中の試合は、序盤から日本に押し込まれる展開に。オーストラリアはなかなか攻撃の形が作れず、少ないチャンスも生かすことができない。
後半に入って徐々にボールを繋ぎ、日本を押し込むことに成功。ロングボールを使いラインを下げさせて攻め込むが、ゴールを奪えず。勝利が必要なオーストラリアは攻勢に出るが、逆に日本にスペースを与えてしまうと、終盤に2失点。W杯出場の夢はプレーオフに託すこととなった。
しかし、このシーンではGK権田修一とセインズベリーが接触したとしてファウルが取られノーゴールに。VARのチェックでもゴールは認められなかった。
セインズベリーは『チャンネル10』でこのシーンについて言及。ファウルではなくゴールだと主張したが、それもサッカーだとした。
「明らかにゴールを与えられるべきだったと思う。僕のコンタクトがなくても、GKがバタついていたから、ボールをキャッチはできていなかったと思う」
「ただ、みんなが知っているように、これがサッカーだ。時に上手くいくこともあれば、逆になることもあるんだ」
オーストラリアはグループA3位とのプレーオフを戦い、その後南米予選5位とのプレーオフでW杯出場を目指す。
一方で、日本戦に敗れるとプレーオフに回ることが決定するという状況で試合に臨んだ。

日本戦で直接FK弾のフルスティッチ、同僚の鎌田大地ではないユニフォーム交換相手は誰?

21歳のオーストラリア人MFが同性愛者であることをカミングアウト「サッカー選手であり、ゲイだ」

元オーストラリア代表DFのレイバット氏が遺体で発見…99年にベルマーレ平塚でプレー
ベルマーレ平塚でもプレーした元オーストラリア代表DFスティーブン・レイバットさん(46)が遺体で発見された。 オーストラリア『シドニー・モーニング・ヘラルド』によると、レイバットさんは13日に家族から行方不明届が出されていたとのこと。12日に友人を訪ねるため、南東部シドニーから東部ブリスベン近郊のバイロン・ベイへ向かったものの、13日午前には家族と連絡が取れなくなっていたという。 地元警察が大規模な捜索を行った結果、14日夜にバイロン・ベイからほど近いビーチ近くの低木林でレイバットさんの遺体が発見されたとのこと。現段階で死因や事件性の有無は公式には発表されていないものの、事件性は低いとみられている。 レイバットさんは2000年のシドニー五輪にU-23オーストラリア代表として参加し、2000〜2004年にかけてはA代表で15試合出場。クラブキャリアでは1999年に短期間ながらもベルマーレ平塚(現:湘南ベルマーレ)でプレーし、オランダのフェイエノールト、ベルギーのヘントなどにも在籍経験を持つ。 引退後は「現役時代にそんなことはできなかった」として2021年に同性愛をカミングアウト。同年には、病院のリハビリ病棟に勤務するなか、腎臓移植によって高齢男性の命を助けていた。 レイバットさんの訃報を受け、元オーストラリア代表DFルーク・ウィルクシャー氏など、多くの関係者が哀悼の意をSNSなどで表明している。 2024.01.15 13:30 Mon
