ポルトガル代表FWクリスティアーノ・ロナウドの復帰で攻撃の迫力が増すマンチェスター・ユナイテッドだが、ウルグアイ代表FWエディンソン・カバーニもようやく戦列に復帰するようだ。

今年5月に昨季までの契約を1年延長して、今季もユナイテッドでプレーするカバーニ。加入初年度の昨季から秀逸な動き出しと献身性で公式戦39試合に出場して17得点の活躍を披露したウルグアイ産のゴールハンターだが、今季はここまで8月29日に行われたプレミアリーグ第3節のウォルバーハンプトン戦に途中出場して以降、代表ウィーク中のケガでここ公式戦5試合を欠場している。

C・ロナウドに背番号「7」を譲り、「21」に変更してからもいまだピッチに立てず、お披露目に至っていないカバーニだが、オーレ・グンナー・スールシャール監督は25日にホームで行われるプレミアリーグ第6節のアストン・ビラ戦に先駆けた会見で、メンバー入りを明言した。

「彼は明日のスカッドに入る。トレーニングにも参加しているし、力になれる準備が整ったと感じている。ウォルバーハンプトン戦に出場した後の代表ウィーク中に少し痛めたが、再び準備が整った。彼の働きぶりはいつだって本当に一生懸命かつ熱心。昨季のようにインパクトを与えてくれると良いね」

先のカラバオカップ3回戦でウェストハムにリベンジを許して、早すぎる敗退に直面したノルウェー人指揮官はまた、C・ロナウドとカバーニが共演となれば「あの2人が一緒にプレーする姿をお目にかかれるのは非常にエキサイティングだ」と続け、共鳴を期待した。

「絶対に謝らない」ハーランド父に復讐したロイ・キーンが“報復”タックルを否定
