元々招集されたタイミングで左足首に問題を抱えていたカンテ。1日に行われたカタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)欧州予選のボスニア・ヘルツェゴビナ代表戦は、ベンチ入りも出場は回避していた。
その足首の状態が思わしくなく、チームは4日にウクライナ代表戦、7日にフィンランド代表戦が控えているものの、一足早くチェルシーに戻ることになった。代わりにユベントスのMFアドリアン・ラビオが招集されている。
FFFはまた、2日にライプツィヒDFノルディ・ムキエレを追加招集したことを発表。ボスニア・ヘルツェゴビナ戦でDFジュール・クンデが退場したことを受けて、その穴埋めとして白羽の矢が立った。ムキエレは今回が初招集となる。
