一方で、バイエルンとJ・ボアテングの契約は2021年夏で満了を迎えるものの、クラブ側に契約延長の意思はなく、今シーズン限りでの退団が既定路線だ。加えて、オーストリア代表DFダビド・アラバも2021年夏で契約満了となるため、バイエルンは一度に2人の主力DFが退団する予定となっている。
こうした状況を受け、マテウス氏はバイエルンに対して考えを改め、J・ボアテングとの契約延長をするべきだと語った。
「バイエルンは移籍にそこまで費用を費やしたくないクラブだ。そしてJ・ボアテングはここ2年、バイエルンで良い役割を果たしていると思う。特にフリックの下で彼は開花し、かつての自分を取り戻せたね。アラバが去る以上、彼と1～2年の契約延長を考えるべきだ」

伝説のGKカーンが語る意外な後悔「あそこに移籍すれば良かった」
