親クラブのバルセロナでは構想外とされ、レンタル中のバイエルンも買取オプションの不行使が決定したことで、来シーズンの去就が宙に浮いたままのコウチーニョ。獲得に興味を示しているクラブとしては、チェルシー、トッテナム、レスターなどイングランド勢の名が挙がっており、本人もプレミアリーグ復帰を望んでいると報道されている。
高額な移籍金と給与が新クラブ探しのネックとなっているコウチーニョだが、『フットボール・インサイダー』によると、トッテナムはレンタル移籍、もしくは買い取りオプション付きのレンタル移籍での獲得を検討しているとのこと。そうなった場合、バルセロナはレンタル料として800万ポンド(約10億円)を要求するようだ。
ベントは同メディアのインタビューに応えると、レンタル料の安さを考えればコウチーニョはトッテナムにとってリスクの低い補強であると考えを述べた。
