元ブラジル代表MFパウロ・セルジオは、ネイマールこそロシア・ワールドカップでの母国躍進のカギになると考えているようだ。『Goal』で語ってくれた。

ネイマールは現在、右足首の捻挫と第5中足骨の負傷で離脱中。復帰はロシア・ワールドカップ本大会中になるとも伝えられる。しかし、それでもパウロ・セルジオ氏は「将来は彼にかかっている」と活躍を期待する。

「ネイマールにとって彼がベストになる最高のチャンスなんだ。でも待たなければならない。彼は若いからね。ここ4カ月、ブラジルは多くのことを上手くやってきた。ワールドカップ出場も簡単に決めた。素晴らしい仕事だ。だからこそネイマールの離脱は残念だよ。彼がいる攻撃陣は素晴らしいし、とても重要な選手だよ」

一方で、ネイマールのキャプテンシーには頼ることなく、チーム全体で力を発揮する必要があるとも語る。

「彼はフットボールだけに集中する必要がある。アームバンドを巻く彼を見たことはあるが、難しそうにプレーしていた。キャプテンについて考える必要はないし、代表についてだけ考えてほしいね」
