女子選手の意見を参考に配慮し白パンツを中止、ナイキが女子W杯出場13カ国の新ユニフォームを発表!

【MLS特集(2)】大物続々参戦で活況を増すも、ものを言うのは資金力?

▽2006年の元イングランド代表MFデイビッド・ベッカムのロサンゼルス・ギャラクシー加入以降、ヨーロッパや南米のビッグネームを獲得し続けているアメリカのメジャーリーグ・サッカー(MLS)。今夏の移籍市場では元イングランド代表MFスティーブン・ジェラード(ロサンゼルス・ギャラクシー)、元イングランド代表MFフランク・ランパード(ニューヨーク・シティ)に加え、イタリア代表MFアンドレア・ピルロ(ニューヨーク・シティ)という3人のスーパースターの加入が決定した。本稿は注目度うなぎのぼりなMLSの現状についてのレポート後編だ。 ◆それぞれの想いを胸に海を渡る大物プレーヤー ▽ユルゲン・クリンスマン監督率いるアメリカ代表の躍進や大物選手の加入などの好材料もあり、年々観客数が増加し、さらには放映権料が高騰。その結果、収益性も高めているMLS。スポーツビジネス大国アメリカの組織だけに、リーグ運営に滞りはなく、選手たちがプレーのみに集中する環境が整えられている。加えて、イタリアやスペイン、南米とは異なり、プロスポーツ選手への敬意を持つファンの存在も、長年プレッシャーに晒され続けてきたスター選手をこのリーグに惹きつける1つの要素となっている。 ▽ジェラードやランパード、ピルロ、元スペイン代表FWダビド・ビジャ(ニューヨーク・シティ)、元ブラジル代表MFカカ(オーランド・シティ)など、ヨーロッパの頂点を極めた超一流選手たちは、新たなモチベーションとキャリア終了後の生活を考慮してアメリカを新天地に選んだ。 <div style="text-align:center;"><img src="http://ultra-soccer.jp/division_image/TOP/get201507mls04_480000.jpg" alt="" class="yui-img" width="290px"></div><div style="font-size : x-small; text-align : right;">Getty Images</div><div style="font-size : x-small; text-align : left;">[MLSは一流選手の選択肢の1つに]</div> ▽また、リーグ全体のレベル向上を受けて、MFマイケル・ブラッドリー(トロントFC)やFWクリント・デンプシー(シアトル・サウンダース)などのアメリカ代表選手の復帰。高額のサラリーを求めてロシアなどのクラブを渡り歩いてきた元ナイジェリア代表FWオバフェミ・マルティンス(シアトル・サウンダース)などアフリカ系の選手が流れてくるケース。イタリア代表FWセバスティアン・ジョビンコ(トロントFC)のようにキャリア全盛期の代表クラスが電撃移籍するケースも出てきている。 ▽さらに、アメリカ行きを決断する最大の理由が、治安と教育環境の優れた土地で家族との時間を過ごすというプライベートな理由だ。2015年1月にスタンダール・リエージュからモントリオール・インパクトに移籍したベルギー代表DFローラン・シマンは、自閉症を患う娘の治療環境を優先して移籍を決断。同選手は特別指定選手の枠外での加入となったため、スタンダール・リエージュ時代よりも低いサラリーでプレーしている。 ◆新制度導入で大物獲得が容易に ▽2006年にレアル・マドリーからロサンゼルス・ギャラクシーに加入したベッカムの移籍を受け、同シーズンから特別指定選手制度が採用された。この制度ではリーグの定めるサラリーキャップの範囲外で最大2選手を獲得することが可能となる。(年間15万ドルの対価でもう1枠だけ特別指定選手枠を追加できる。つまり実質、特別指定選手は最大3選手まで。なお、その15万ドルは、3枠目の特別指定選手枠を持たないすべてのクラブに分配される) ▽さらにMLSは、2015年7月8日に各クラブの補強をこれまで以上に促進するために、特殊分配金制度の導入を発表した。この特殊分配金制度は、2015年以降の5年間にリーグ機構から毎年10万ドル(約1240万円)の補強資金が分配されるというものだ。(一括で50万ドル[約6190万円]を受け取ることも可能) ▽ただし、通常の分配金が、選手獲得のための移籍金や既存選手の給与を賄うために使用できる一方、特殊分配金は年俸上限(2015シーズンは43万6250ドル)を超えるサラリーを受け取っている選手に対しての使用に限られる。したがって、この分配金の使い道はいくつかのパターンに限られる。 ▽一つは年俸上限を超える年俸の選手を獲得するため。もう一つは、現状抱えている選手と契約更新する際に、年俸上限を超えた年俸で契約を結ぶためだ。これにより、クラブは額面上は年俸上限以下で、より“価値”の高い選手を、これまで以上に抱えることができるようになった。一方で、この特殊分配金を、他のクラブとトレードし、相応の対価を得ることも可能だ。 ▽そして、さらにもう一つのケースは、この特殊分配金を特別指定選手の年俸額の一部にあてることで、年俸上限以下の額面に引き下げ、同選手を特別指定選手ではなくするというものだ。これこそMLSが今回の分配金制度を導入した最大の理由だ。(ただし、この用途は、すでに抱えている特別指定選手を、新たに獲得する特別指定選手で置き換える場合にのみ認められる) <div style="text-align:center;"><img src="http://ultra-soccer.jp/division_image/TOP/get201507mls05_480000.jpg" alt="" class="yui-img" width="290px"></div><div style="font-size : x-small; text-align : right;">Getty Images</div><div style="font-size : x-small; text-align : left;">[“特別指定選手”として加入するドス・サントス]</div> ▽7月16日に、ビジャレアルからロサンゼルス・ギャラクシーに加入したメキシコ代表FWジョバニ・ドス・サントスの移籍は、この特殊分配金制度を利用した初めてのケースだ。ドス・サントス加入以前にアイルランド代表FWロビー・キーンとジェラード、アメリカ代表DFオマール・ゴンサレスを特別指定選手枠で登録していたロサンゼルス・ギャラクシーは、以前までであれば、ドス・サントスを獲得するために、同選手のサラリーを選手1人あたりの年俸上限である43万6250ドル(約5370万円)以内に抑えるか、前述した特別指定選手3名のうちの1人を放出する必要があった。 ▽だが、同クラブは前述した3選手の中で最も年俸の低いオマール・ゴンサレスのサラリー(120万ドル[約1億4800万円])に対して、特殊分配金(最大50万ドル+トレードで獲得した数十万ドル)を充てて、クラブが支払う同選手のサラリーを年俸上限以内に抑えることで、特別指定選手の登録枠から外した。これにより、年俸410万ドル(約5億860万円)のドス・サントスを新たな特別指定選手として獲得することが可能となったのだ。 ◆マーケットの拡大続くもビジネス化の流れが加速 ▽ジェラードやピルロ、ランパードらの加入と若年層のファン拡大で今後も隆盛が続くとみられるMLSだが、これからはクラブ間の資金力の差がリーグの競争力に大きな影響を及ぼしていきそうだ。 ▽リーグ全体の収益増加で今後は毎シーズンのようにサラリーキャップの上限が上がり、選手のサラリーはうなぎのぼりとなるだろう。加えて、前述した特殊分配金制度の導入でロサンゼルス・ギャラクシーやニューヨーク・シティなど、大都市圏の資金力のあるチームが、国内外からさらなる大物選手を獲得することも十分に予想される。 ▽アメリカ独自で発展するMLBやNFLなどでは、資金力のないクラブがドラフトによって有望なタレントを集めて競争力を保つことができるが、ワールドワイドなサッカーでは有望な若手が他国のリーグに引き抜かれるため、必ずしも同様の手法を採ることができるわけではない。 <div style="text-align:center;"><img src="http://ultra-soccer.jp/division_image/TOP/get201507mls06_480000.jpg" alt="" class="yui-img" width="290px"></div><div style="font-size : x-small; text-align : right;">Getty Images</div><div style="font-size : x-small; text-align : left;">[変容し続けるMLSの今後はいかに…?]</div> ▽近い将来に向けては、特殊分配金制度のようなマーケティング上の効果を狙った、資金力のあるビッグクラブ有利の新制度の導入や、MLBが採用する“贅沢税(罰金を支払えば、サラリーキャップ超過が許される)”の導入が予想される。その中でこれまでのように、すべてのクラブに優勝の可能性がある競争力の高いリーグを維持できるかが、課題となっていくだろう。《超ワールドサッカー編集部・岸上敏宏》 2015.07.24 18:31 Fri
