アダナ・デミルスポルのイタリア代表FWマリオ・バロテッリが、母国のカタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)欧州予選プレーオフ敗退を嘆いた。イタリア『スカイ・スポーツ』が伝えている。

イタリアは24日に行われたカタールW杯欧州予選プレーオフ準決勝で、北マケドニア代表相手に多くのチャンスを作りながら得点を奪えずにいると、後半アディショナルタイムに失点を許し0-1で敗戦。この結果、2018年に行われたロシアW杯に続き2大会連続でW杯本大会出場を逃すことになった。

W杯プレーオフでは代表招集の噂もありながら結局選外となったバロテッリは、インタビューでイタリアのプレーオフ敗退に落胆。ロベルト・マンチーニ監督に恨みはないとしつつ、自分を選んでくれていればゴールを奪える可能性はあったと語った。
「イタリアの敗戦は皆を傷つけたと思う。俺も本当に酷い気分だった。それは、北マケドニア戦で招集されなかったことだけが原因じゃない。12月にW杯があり、そこで代表に復帰する可能性も俺にはあったんだ。扉が閉ざされていたわけではなかったから、重要な機会を逃したと思っている。もちろん、イタリアがW杯に出られないのが本当に辛い」

「チームが負けると、俺がいないのが寂しいと言われるようになる。試合前は誰もそう思っていなかったし、終わってからそれを言うのは簡単なことさ。北マケドニア戦では多くのチャンスがあり、俺はゴール前でとても良い選手だ。だが、ああいう試合ではあれこれ選手を投入しても勝てなかっただろう。マリオがいたら勝てたというわけでもないさ。ゴールを決める良いチャンスはあっただろうがね…」

バロテッリが人種差別被害に言及 「問題は自分がイタリア人であること」

北中米W杯の欧州予選組み合わせ決定! 12カ国+POの4カ国が出場権獲得、来年3月からスタート【2026年北中米W杯欧州予選】

「イケすぎてませんか」イタリア代表が白×金の125周年記念ユニフォームを発表!「美しい」「マジでかっこいい」
