ダービー・カウンティに所属する元イングランド代表FWウェイン・ルーニーが、今季はリバプールに優勝トロフィーを与えるべきだと話している。イギリス『スカイ・スポーツ』が伝えている。新型コロナウイルスの影響で4月末までの延期が決まっているプレミアリーグ。同様に延期となっている他国のリーグ戦とは異なり、同リーグではリバプールが2位のマンチェスター・シティに「25」の勝ち点差を付けて首位を独走している。
そのため、もしリーグ戦が中止となってもリバプールの優勝にするべきとの声も上がる中、マンチェスター・ユナイテッドやエバートンでプレーしたルーニーもまた同じ考えのようだ。
「リバプールが優勝に相応しいと思う。エバートンファンからは『シーズンは中止にするべきだ!』ていう電話が掛かってきそうだけどね。あともちろん、エバートンだけでなくユナイテッドにも13年在籍していたから、僕の中にも少しはそんな思いはあるよ」
「だけど、今季のリバプールはファンタスティックだ。彼らはタイトルに値する。30年も待って、こんな形で優勝を逃すなんて考えられるかい? 正しい決断が必要だ」
そしてその為には、リーグ戦を終えるのに今年1年かかろうとも仕方のないことだとルーニーは言う。
「たとえ来シーズンを失うことになっても2019-20シーズンをやり遂げる。それが公平なんじゃないかな」
「2020年を丸々使っても僕は驚かない。フットボールは他と同じように未知の領域に入っている。そして、他の業界と同じようにアドバイスに耳を傾け、全ての必要な予防措置を取らなければならない」

リバプールが右SBの21歳ブラッドリーと長期契約! 来季からの主軸と期待「もっと多くのトロフィーを獲得する」
