2014年大会の王者としてカタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)に臨んだドイツ代表。前評判ではスペイン代表とともにグループE突破の本命と目されたが、3試合を戦って1勝1分け1敗の3位で敗退が決まった。
初戦の日本代表戦でまさかの逆転負けを喫したところから狂わされ、1日の最終戦でコスタリカ代表に勝利したものの、得失点差で涙をのむ結果に。2大会連続のグループステージ敗退の憂き目となった。

「サポートはほとんどなかった」日本戦を前にW杯を振り返るドイツ代表FWハヴァーツ、ファンのサポートを求める「100%感じていたわけではない」

妊娠中のハヴァーツ妻へのSNS脅迫行為で17歳青年が逮捕
