オーストラリア代表がアジアサッカー連盟(AFC)=アジアの舞台で戦うことは是か非か。現在開催中のアジアカップ「文化展示会」におけるオーストラリアのブースがあまりに“雑”だとして、同国メディア『news.com.au』は論争の再燃を心配しているようだ。 イギリス連邦の一角をなすオセアニアの大国・オーストラリア。そのサッカー史を振り返ると、1882年に最初のサッカー連盟が設立され、1966年に隣国ニュージーランドと協力してオセアニアサッカー連盟(OFC)を設立。2006年にOFCを脱退し、アジアサッカー連盟(AFC)へと転籍する。 オーストラリア代表は同年のドイツ・ワールドカップ(W杯)にOFC(オセアニア)代表として出場するも、アジア杯2007予選からAFCの一員に。以後、W杯とアジア杯の本大会全てに出場。アジアを代表する強豪となった。 現在はアジア杯2023に参戦中だが、大会を記念して開催地カタールで催されている「文化展示会」におけるオーストラリアのブースがあまりに“雑”だとして、『news.com.au』が嘆きの論調を展開している。 「AFCにおけるオーストラリアの立場は、長い間議論の的となってきた。2006年にオセアニアからアジアへ向かった最大の目的は、男子A代表がW杯に出やすくすることだったわけだが、他にはアジア杯などへの参加でオーストラリアの存在をポジティブにアピールすることでもあった」 現地カタールで取材中のオーストラリア人サッカージャーナリスト、スコット・マッキンタイア氏は「文化展示会」の写真をSNSに投稿。シリア・オマーン・パレスチナのブースが、それぞれ国の文化を知れるスペースとなっていたり、スタッフを配置しているのに対し、オーストラリアは「奇妙なことに、2本のボウリングピン、テニスボール1つ、そして茶色い紙袋、これだけが置かれていた」という。 これを受けて『news.com.au』がフットボール・オーストラリア(FFA/サッカー連盟)に問い合わせたところ、各国のサッカー連盟はブースに関与しておらず、FFAも自国のブースが雑な扱いを受けていることを把握していなかったとのこと。今度はFFAがAFCに説明を求めると、AFCも「把握してなかった」と返答したようだ。 FFAは『news.com.au』を通じ、「各所にヒヤリングしたところ、文化展示会は現地の民間が主体となった取り組みであることがわかりました。アジア杯のような国際イベントにおいてオーストラリアンフットボールを表現すること、そしてブランディングを行うことは非常に重要です。我々は今後も、国際舞台でオーストラリア代表の存在をポジティブに感じてもらえるよう努めていきます」と談話を発表している。 “国際舞台でオーストラリア代表の存在をポジティブに感じてもらえるよう…” ことの発端となったマッキンタイア氏のSNS投稿には、オーストラリア代表のAFC在籍に対して否定的なコメントがちらほら。オーストラリアの文化そのものを揶揄するような悪質コメントも見受けられる。 なぜオーストラリアのブースだけあからさまに手を抜かれていたのか。この点は明らかになっていないが、『news.com.au』は「オーストラリアの文化の欠如が浮き彫りになったのかもしれないが、代表チームのAFC所属がこれまで悪口や冷笑の対象となってきたことは間違いない」と締めくくっている。 <span class="paragraph-title">【画像】手を抜きすぎなオーストラリアのブース...</span> <span data-other-div="movie"></span> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Each of the participating nations at the Asian Cup have a booth set up to display traditional wares/culture in central Doha. 「観客動員が少ない!」オーストラリア・Aリーグが従業員の半数解雇で事業再編へ…今季の平均観客動員数最多はシドニーFCで「1万4097人」

「漫画かよ」「ドラマがあるなぁ」“救世主”三笘薫と中村憲剛氏の13年前の姿にファンも感激「エモすぎる」
