現在イングランドで開催されている女子ユーロ2022。自国での初優勝を目指すイングランド女子代表は、26日の準決勝で東京オリンピック準優勝のスウェーデン女子代表と対戦した。

拮抗した展開も予想された一戦は、34分にFWベス・ミードが先制点を挙げると、以降も得点を重ねて4-0と圧勝。見事に決勝進出を果たした。

中でもこの試合の3ゴール目となったMFアレッシア・ルッソ(マンチェスター・ユナイテッド)のヒールシュートが、世界中で大きな話題となっている。

ポゼッションで押し込んだライオネセスは、左のポケットを取ったMFフラン・カービーがグラウンダーのクロスを入れると、ルッソがダイレクトで合わせる。これはGKに阻まれるも、こぼれ球を自ら拾い、ゴールを背にした状態から意表を突いたヒールキック。これがDFと、GKの股を抜けてネットを揺らした。

ルッソはMF登録ながらも、FWエレン・ホワイトに次ぐセンターフォワードとして起用されることが多く、代表では12試合出場8得点を記録している。

公式ツイッターが「ルッソはアウトレイジ」と紹介した驚きの一撃には、元アメリカ女子代表FWアビー・ワンバックも反応。「そのようなゴールを決めることを夢見ていたが、最後までできなかった」とツイートしている。

シェフィールドに訪れた入場者数は2万8624人。イギリス『BBC』によれば、この試合のテレビ視聴者はピークで930万人、アプリ利用者を含めると1130万人が視聴したと伝えられるなど、今大会は非常に大きな盛り上がりを見せている。

北中米W杯の欧州予選組み合わせ決定! 12カ国+POの4カ国が出場権獲得、来年3月からスタート【2026年北中米W杯欧州予選】
