マンチェスター・シティMFジャック・グリーリッシュがイングランド代表のユーロ2024メンバーから落選を振り返った。イギリス『BBC』が報じている。

本大会を迎えるにあたり、候補メンバーに入ったグリーリッシュだが、最終選考で落選。シティ3年目の昨季、新入りジェレミー・ドクとのポジション争いで劣勢だったのが影響してか、本大会行きが叶わなかった。2大会連続の準優勝に終わったイングランドを外から眺めるにとどまった28歳MFは「休暇中は携帯電話やテレビをつけるたびに目に入ってくるから、見ないようにするのが難しかった」と当時の心境を吐露した。

「正直、フットボールの側面において、キャリアのなかで最も困難な瞬間だった。完全にハートブレイクだ」

ただ、シティ加入時に移籍金1億ポンド(約195億8000万円)を記録した10番はこの悔しさを糧に「これから先、今季に向けて、それ自分のモチベーションにしていくしかない」とし、こう付け足している。

「僕はチームに入るべきだったと感じている。ほかの選手とは違う何かをもたらせるとね。でも、これが現実さ」

2025年最初のFIFAランク、大きく変動も日本は15位をキープ! 2位にスペイン、6位にオランダが浮上【FIFAランキング】
