チェルシーのレジェンドであり、指揮も執ったことがあるフランク・ランパード氏(45)だが、カナダ代表の指揮官候補に挙がっているという。

現役時代はウェストハム、スウォンジー、チェルシー、ニューヨーク・シティ、マンチェスター・シティでプレー。引退後はダービー・カウンティで監督キャリアをスタートさせると、チェルシーやエバートンでも指揮を執った。2023年4月からは短期間ながらチェルシーで2度目の指揮。その後は現在までフリーの状態が続いている。
監督のキャリアとしては決して成功しているとは言えないランパード氏。イギリス『テレグラフ』がカナダ代表の指揮官候補に浮上していると報じた。

カナダ代表は2026年に自国で開催されるワールドカップ(W杯)に向けてチームを強化しているが、現在は正式な監督が決まっていない状況だ。
そんな中で候補者リストにはランパード氏の名前も入っているとのこと。現場復帰を目指すランパード氏は、3月のインターナショナル・マッチウィークでイングランド代表の練習を見学していたという。

カナダ代表監督という職務がランパード氏にとって魅力的かどうかは不明。ただ、アメリカでも1年プレー経験があり、可能性は捨て切れない。

現場復帰を望む一方で、現役時代からなかなか取れない家族との時間も楽しんでいるというランパード氏。カナダ代表監督となれば、W杯を監督としても経験でき、違った経験を手にできるが、果たしてどういう結末を迎えるだろうか。

史上最高“究極”のオールラウンダー、フランク・ランパード

10人目の代表100キャップへ、イングランド代表最多得点者のケインが偉大な選手の仲間入りに「引退したら大きな誇りに」

女子選手の意見を参考に配慮し白パンツを中止、ナイキが女子W杯出場13カ国の新ユニフォームを発表!

「アメフト選手みたい」“肉体改造”に成功したA・デイビスに「NBAなら薬物検査もの」
