2大会連続のW杯グループステージ敗退という悲劇を味わったドイツ。しかし、2023年に入ってからチームはさらに低迷。新たなシステムや戦い方にトライをしているとは言いながらも、親善試合5試合で1勝しかできていない現実があった。
日本との試合で、11分に伊東純也のゴールで先制を許すも、19分に完璧な崩しからレロイ・サネのゴールで同点に追いつく。
このまま押し込みたかったなか、22分に上田綺世にゴールを決められビハインドで前半を終えると、後半はボールこそ保持していくものの、ゴールに迫れず。90分に浅野拓磨、92分に田中碧とドイツでプレーする2人に息の根を止められ、4-1で敗戦となった。
