ローマ保有の『フリードキン』が仏4部のASカンヌを買収…かつてジダンら輩出も長らく低迷

新会長に任命されたライアン・フリードキン氏

ローマのオーナーを務めるアメリカのコンソーシアム『フリードキン・グループ』が、フランス4部のASカンヌを買収した。

『フリードキン・グループ』はアメリカにおける『トヨタ自動車』のメジャーディーラーの1つ、『Gulf States Toyota Distributors』を経営するコンソーシアム。

2020年8月にはセリエAのローマを買収し、昨シーズンのヨーロッパ・カンファレンスリーグ制覇など、名門復活に向けてクラブの立て直しを図っている。

その『フリードキン・グループ』は、昨年からアメリカ『ゴールドマン・サックス』からの打診を受けてカンヌ買収交渉を開始していた。

そして、26日にすべての手続きが完了し、ローマの現副会長であるライアン・フリードキン氏がクラブの新会長に任命された。

フリードキン氏はプレスリリースを通じて、歴史あるクラブの新会長に就任した喜びを語っている。

「このような伝説的なフットボールクラブに加入でき、エキサイティングな時を過ごしている」

「カンヌとフランスのこの地域は常に私たちの心の中で特別な場所を占めてきました。私の家族にドラゴンズの伝統を継承する機会を与えてくれたダビド・リナール市長と(前会長である)アニー・コートデに感謝したい」

「クラブがさらなるリーグ昇格に向けて競争力を発揮できるように、そしてサポーターと街に誇りを持ってもらえるよう、できる限りのことをしていきたいと思っている」

カンヌは1902年に創設された歴史のあるクラブで、ジネディーヌ・ジダンやパトリック・ヴィエラというフランス代表のレジェンドを輩出。

しかし、近年は財政難の影響もあって低迷が続き、2014年には慢性的な負債を理由に7部へ強制降格。現在はフランス4部にあたるナシオナル2に所属している。

一方、『フリードキン・グループ』にとってはローマに続く2クラブ目の保有クラブとなる。
