王様と呼ばれるペレに対し、“カイザー(皇帝)”と呼ばれたベッケンバウアー。サッカー史に残る偉大なレジェンド同士は、引退後も関係が深く、サッカー界で大きな影響を及ぼしてきた。

デニス・ローの訃報に思い出すトリノでの出会い/六川亨の日本サッカーの歩み
1月18日、19日の両日、熊本で開催された第14回フットボールカンファレンスにズームで参加した。このカンファレンスは基本的に指導者向けで有料のため、オブザーバーはSNSでの発信を禁じられている。このため「指導者育成システム」の講義内容を紹介することはできない。 そのカンファレンスの冒頭、司会を務めた影山雅永JFA技術委員長は23~24年に他界したサッカー界のレジェンドたちを追悼するため黙祷を行った。 ボビー・チャールトン、マリオ・ザガロ、フランツ・ベッケンバウアー、アンドレアス・ブレーメ、ルイス・メノッティ、クリストフ・ダウム、ゴラン・エリクソン、サルバトーレ・スキラッチ、ヨハン・ニースケンスら60年代から90年代にかけて活躍した選手・監督たち。 そして日本人では日本代表や三菱のチームドクターとしてパイオニア的な存在だった大畠襄ドクター、70年のメキシコW杯で線審を務め、日本人初のW杯審判員を務めた丸山義行レフェリー、フジタ工業(現湘南)でJSLや天皇杯に優勝し、平塚や群馬の監督を歴任した植木繁晴氏、清水東高校の勝沢要監督、大宮や札幌で活躍したものの昨年1月に38歳の若さで逝去した横山知伸氏、そして昨年末に99歳で亡くなられたフリージャーナリストの賀川浩氏へ哀悼の意を表した。 そして19日、スコットランド代表で、マンチェスター・ユナイテッドの黄金時代を築いたFWデニス・ロー氏の訃報が飛び込んできた。84歳だった。 ロー氏はハダースフィールドでプロのキャリアをスタートさせると、マンチェスター・シティ、トリノを経てユナイテッドに加入。リーグ優勝に加えFAカップ制覇、そしてユナイテッド初のチャンピオンズ・カップ(現CL)優勝にも貢献。ポジションはいまでいうシャドーストライカーで、エレガントなプレースタイルからゴールを量産し、ジョージ・ベストのクロスから鮮やかなヘディングシュートを決めるシーンを「ダイヤモンドサッカー」で見た記憶がある。 ユナイテッドでは通算400試合以上に出場し、237ゴールを記録。スコットランド代表でも55試合に出場し、ケニー・ダルグリッシュと並ぶスコットランド代表歴代最多となる30得点を記録した。スコットランド代表の選手としてただ一人、64年にバロンドールも受賞している。そしてシティとユナイテッドの両チームでプレーした初めての選手でもあった。 W杯の出場は74年西ドイツ大会の1回だけだったのは、やはり英国4協会で別々に予選を戦ったため“世界の壁”は厚かったということだろう。当時のロー氏はすでに34歳。初戦のザイール戦こそスタメン出場を果たし、ピーター・ロリマーとジョー・ジョーダンのゴールで2-0と勝ったものの、ブラジルと0-0、ユーゴスラビアと1-1の結果、得失点差でグループリーグ敗退を余儀なくされ、ロー氏のW杯出場は1試合で終わった。 この大会にイングランドは出場していなかったが、ロングボール主体のキック&ラッシュとは違い、ショートパスをつないで攻めるスコットランドのスタイルは新鮮な驚きだった。 ジョージ・ベストと並んでアイドルだったロー氏に初めて会ったのは1990年イタリアW杯だった。決勝トーナメント1回戦のアルゼンチン対ブラジル戦を取材にトリノのデッレ・アルピ・スタジアムへ行ったときのことだ。アルプスからの冷たい風が吹き付けるスタジアムだったが、プレスルームのカフェでロー氏はエスプレッソを飲んでいた。思わず声をかけて写真撮影をお願いすると笑顔で応えてくれた。現役時代と変わらない柔和で人懐こい笑顔はいまでも忘れられない。 2025.01.20 13:00 Mon

21世紀の出場試合数ランキング発表! 首位は1145試合のC・ロナウド、トップ10に日本人選手がランクイン

ネイマールが「M」の剃り込みを入れた新ヘアスタイルを披露!娘のイニシャルで喜び体現
