カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)はグループステージを終え、すでにラウンド16の戦いがスタート。日本代表や韓国代表などアップセットを成し遂げたチームが生き残っている一方で、ドイツ代表やウルグアイ代表といった優勝経験のある強豪国の敗退も起こっている。
かつてオランダ代表やバルセロナを指揮していたクーマン氏はスペイン『マルカ』のインタビューで、今後の決勝トーナメントではハイレベルな戦いが観戦できることを心待ちにしていると語った。
「ほとんどいつもそうだが、グループステージでは通常、面白い試合を見られることは少ない。これからのトーナメントでは、非常に良い勝負が見られると思う」
また、優勝候補として挙げたのはスペイン代表。1日のグループE第3節では日本に1-2で敗れたものの、ルイス・エンリケ監督率いるチームには高いクオリティがあると評価した。

「激アツ」「どっちも可愛い」長谷川唯の“激レア”スペイン代表ユニフォーム姿が話題! イニエスタにも例えられるボンマティの日本代表ユニも話題「なんかエモい」

21世紀の出場試合数ランキング発表! 首位は1145試合のC・ロナウド、トップ10に日本人選手がランクイン
