カタール・ワールドカップに向けたドイツ代表メンバーが10日に発表された。スカッドは概ね順当な顔ぶれとなったが、ティモ・ヴェルナーやマルコ・ロイスはケガで見送られ、昨夏のユーロ2020以来の招集も期待されたフンメルスも外れることになった。
元々、2018年11月以降、ドイツ代表からは遠ざかっていたフンメルスは、ドルトムント復帰を契機にユーロという大舞台で返り咲きを果たした。だが、大会以降、再び招集外の状況が続き、今回のカタールW杯も含め、この1年半の間に一度も声がかかることはなかった。
ドイツ代表のハンジ・フリック監督はフンメルスの落選について「マットは完全にフィットし、素晴らしい状態にある。しかし、我々コーチングチーム内で若い選手を採用することを決めた。焦点は未来に向けられていたのだ」と、理由を説明している。
それでもメンバー入りを期待していた33歳にとって、今回の結末は大きな失望となってしまったようだ。
なお、ドイツ『Bild』によると、間もなく34歳になる同選手は、代表からの引退を考えているという。

国内牛耳るバイエルンの補強スタイルにライプツィヒの若手MFが苦言「本当に最悪」

フンメルス加入迫るローマ、“オリンピコの奇跡”の立役者が電撃復帰へ!
