アストン・ビラ、守護神不在で残留争いへ…ヒートン「今季中の復帰は困難」

アストン・ビラに所属する元イングランド代表GKトム・ヒートンの今シーズン中の復帰はやはり厳しいようだ。イギリス『デイリー・メール』が伝えている。

今シーズン、バーンリーから新加入のヒートンは開幕から正GKとしてプレー。しかし、今年1月に行われたプレミアリーグ第21節のバーンリー戦で右ヒザのじん帯を損傷し、全治6～9カ月といわれる重傷を負った。

その後、ヒートンは新型コロナウイルス(COVID-19)による長期中断を経て、軽いトレーニングを行えるまでに回復したが、やはり今季中の復帰は絶望的なようだ。

手術から4カ月半が過ぎた中、元イングランド代表GKがイギリス『スカイ・スポーツ』で自身の現状について説明している。

「ケガは順調に回復しているよ。手術後から4カ月半は一進一退という感じだったけど、ここまでの回復に本当に満足している。状態に関しても安定感を感じている」

「今は屋外のトレーニングに戻って少しだけランニングもできている。今後はゆっくりと積み上げていくつもりさ」

「実際のところ、今シーズン中の復帰は困難だと思っている」

「それでも、来シーズンの開幕までには準備が整っていることを期待しているよ。開幕時期が不透明な部分もあるしね」

なお、アストン・ビラはリーグ戦中断前時点で17位のワトフォードと勝ち点2差の19位(1試合未消化)に低迷。ヒートンの長期離脱を受け、ミランから元スペイン代表GKホセ・マヌエル・レイナをレンタル移籍で獲得しているが、守護神不在の中で残留を勝ち取れるか…。
