イギリス『デイリー・メール』が報じたところによれば、マイカー・リチャーズは慢性的な右ヒザの問題に苦しんでおり、アストン・ビラと契約満了となる今シーズン終了後にも引退する意向を友人に話したという。
かつてマンチェスター・シティのユース最高傑作として脚光を集めたマイカー・リチャーズは2005年にプロデビュー後、強靭な肉体と推進力を生かして右サイドバックやセンターバックで活躍。2度のプレミアリーグ制覇やFAカップ優勝など“強豪”シティの礎に貢献した。
だが、ケガに泣くシーズンが続き、表舞台からフェードアウト。2014年夏のフィオレンティーナにレンタル移籍後、2015年夏にアストン・ビラに完全移籍したが、2016年10月以降はヒザの問題で実戦から遠ざかっている状況だった。

ロイ・キーンに頭突きした男が有罪判決…アーセナルvsユナイテッド戦後にスタジアムで襲撃

アルゼンチン守護神が敗戦後に中継カメラマンを平手打ち…コロンビア記者協会はFIFAに出場停止求める
