クロアチア代表DFシメ・ヴルサリコは、イングランドはロシア・ワールドカップでもロングボールスタイルだったと指摘した。『インディペンデント』が報じている。

イングランドは11日、W杯準決勝でクロアチアと対戦。悲願のW杯制覇まであと2勝に迫っていたイングランドは試合開始直後にキーラン・トリッピアーのゴールにより先制。しかし、後半にイバン・ペリシッチのゴールで同点に追いつかれると延長後半にマリオ・マンジュキッチに決勝点を許し、決勝進出を逃した。
