マドリーとフランス代表で躍動するチュアメニ、かつてセスクがバルサに推薦「ブスケッツの後継者に最適だった」

フランス代表としてカタール・ワールドカップでも活躍中のオーレリアン・チュアメニだが、セスク・ファブレガスはいち早くその才能に気づいていたようだ。

セスクとチュアメニはモナコでおよそ2年半共闘した間柄。チュアメニはそのモナコで徐々に頭角を現すと、2021年9月にフランス代表デビューを果たし、今回のカタールW杯でもメンバー入り。本戦ではグループステージ3試合で先発出場している。

セスクが初めてチュアメニを知ったのは、チュアメニがまだボルドーに在籍していた頃のこと。リーグ・アンのボルドー戦で感銘を受けたと、セスクは『フットメルカート』の取材で語った。

「彼が他の選手とは違うことをすぐに見抜いたよ。初めて彼を見たのは、モナコで行われたボルドーとのリーグ戦のことだった」

「僕はベンチからのスタートだったんだけど、彼のパフォーマンスに驚かされてね。思わずスタッフに『ボルドーのあのMFは誰なんだ?』と尋ねたのを覚えている」

すると2020年1月、モナコはそのチュアメニを1800万ユーロで獲得し、2人はチームメイトに。当時のことをセスクは「彼はウチに来て、少し適応する時間も必要だったけど、その後はどんどん成長して僕が思っていた通りの素晴らしい選手になったよ」と語る。

そして、セスクはさらに、チュアメニを古巣のバルセロナに推薦したという。

「バルサでオーレルのことを話したのは本当だ。彼らはセルヒオ・ブスケッツの後継者を探す準備にとりかかっていて、僕にとっては完ぺきな選手だった」

「だけど、バルサが資金不足だった時期で、4000万ユーロ以上は提示できなかったと思う」

ただ、セスクの期待とは裏腹に、チュアメニは今夏レアル・マドリーへ移籍。多くのビッグクラブが獲得に動いた中で、最大1億ユーロの値がついた。

バルセロナの最大のライバルへ移籍したチュアメニだが、ここまではレギュラーとして公式戦18試合に出場中。セスクは「オーレリアンに限界はない」と、ライバルで活躍する22歳へエールを送っている。
