マンチェスター・シティのイングランド代表MFジャック・グリーリッシュがビラ・パークに帰還した。グリーリッシュは6歳の頃にアストン・ビラのアカデミーの門を叩き、16歳の2012年にトップチームデビューを果たした生え抜きのスター。昨季も絶対的主軸を担うシンボルプレーヤーとしてだけでなく、キャプテンとしてもチームをリードしたが、今夏イングランド史上最高額となる1億ポンド(現レートで約150億円)の移籍金でシティに加入した。

大きな期待通り加入後は左ウイングとしてすぐに定位置を掴み、公式戦15試合で2ゴール3アシストを記録。そのグリーリッシュは、1日に行われたプレミアリーグ第14節で、シティの一員として初めてビラ・パークを訪れた。
グリーリッシュは、試合終了間際の87分にFWガブリエウ・ジェズスとの交代で投入。その際にはビラ・パークの観衆たちから拍手とともに盛大なブーイングを受けた。さらに、試合中にグリーリッシュがボールを持つたびに、ブーイングの嵐となっていた。

それでも、試合後にグリーリッシュが観客たちへの挨拶を行うと、スタジアムに残っていたサポーターたちから大きな拍手が生まれる場面もあった。
シティのジョゼップ・グアルディオラ監督は、イギリス『BBC』の取材に対し、拍手もブーイングもどちらも起こったことに理解を示した。

「人々は望むことを表現することができる。もしブーイングがあったとしても、それは彼をとても愛しているからだ。多くの人が拍手をしていたように思う」

「温かい歓迎だった。彼は他の誰よりもこのクラブを愛している。彼は次のステップとして、ヨーロッパでプレーすることを決めたんだ」

チャンピオンシップ昇格プレーオフ決勝の勝利賞金がCL優勝賞金を上回ると話題に

プレミアリーグ上位対決での疑惑の判定…PGMOLチーフのウェブ氏が見解「アーセナルのゴール取り消しは正しい判断」

神戸FW宮代大聖がアストン・ビラ行きの可能性と現地報道…公式戦18ゴールと飛躍、戦略的パートナーシップの影響も?
