準決勝で今対価で躍進を見せたモロッコ代表を下し、2大会連続の決勝へ駒を進めたフランス。大会連覇の懸った一戦に向けた前日会見に出席したデシャン監督は、FWリオネル・メッシにとって最後のW杯となることからアルゼンチンの優勝を願う声が多いことについて触れながらも、チームの目的は優勝であると強い決意を語った。｢言うまでもなく、目的はタイトルを獲得することだ。アルゼンチンや世界中の多くの人々、そしてフランス人もメッシがW杯で優勝することを望んでいる人もいると思うが、我々は目的を達成するためにすべてを捧げるつもりだ｣
また、決勝戦でのFWカリム・ベンゼマの復帰について問われると、｢このような話をするのは好きではない｣と語り、見せつけるように顔をしかめた。

｢初戦でテオ・エルナンデスがケガして以来、我々は24人で戦ってきた。そして彼らが私が裁量を振るえる選手たちだ｣
｢負傷した選手について語るのは彼らに対してフェアじゃない。誰が試合を見に来るかなどは私は知らないし、私は裁量を任された選手たちに集中するだけだ｣

相手が恐れる右手…ストライカーの完成形と呼ばれた男、アラン・シアラー

「史上最高のセーブ」「神の脚」アルゼンチン代表GKマルティネスが優勝呼び込むセーブの左脚にW杯トロフィーのタトゥー…しかし注目は4本に見える指に「どこに行った?」
