レアル・マドリーの元ドイツ代表MFトニ・クロースがフランス代表の次期監督に自身の恩師であるジネディーヌ・ジダン氏(50)を推した。

カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)でも総合力の高さをもってして決勝に進んだが、アルゼンチン代表との激戦をPK戦で落として、史上3カ国目の連覇を逃したフランス。ディディエ・デシャン監督(54)は試合後に自身の進退を濁して、新年初めに会長との協議見通しを口にしている。

今回のW杯を外から見守ったクロースはドイツ『MagentaTV』で120分間でも決着つかずの死闘が繰り広げられた決勝を振り返ったなかで、デシャン監督が退任した場合の後任にも触れ、自身もかつてレアル・マドリーで師事を仰いだフランスの英雄、ジダン氏をプッシュした。
「ジズーは良い後継者だし、可能な限り最高の後継者だ。僕は絶対的にそう思う。大きな疑問はデシャンの意向さ。ジズーがフランスの新監督になる可能性は70/30くらいだろう。彼は本当に練習場に戻りたいんだと思う」

現役時代に抜群のタレント力を誇ったジダン氏は古巣レアル・マドリーで指導者に転身すると、監督としても前人未到のチャンピオンズリーグ(CL)3連覇などの手腕を発揮。2020-21シーズンを最後に退任してからはフリーとなり、フランスの次期監督候補と目されている。
