「選手たちを守れ!」NWSLの一戦が抗議活動で一時中断、日本人選手らも参加

ナショナル・ウーマンズ・サッカーリーグ(NWSL)の選手たちが、性的不正行為疑惑への対応に対する抗議の意を示した。

現地時間6日、NJ/NYゴッサムFCvsワシントン・スピリットの一戦が行われた。主審は試合開始5分を過ぎたあたりで試合を一時中断。その後、ベンチメンバーを含めた両チームの選手たちがピッチ中央へと集合した。ハラスメント問題への抗議のため、センターサークル付近でチームの境なく肩を組む選手たち。現役引退を発表したカーリー・ロイドをはじめ、川澄奈穂美(ともにNJ/NYゴッサムFC)や宝田沙織、横山久美(ともにワシントン・スピリット)らも輪に加わり、およそ1分半にわたって抗議を行った。

客席からも「我々の選手たちを守れ!」、「パワー・トゥー・ザ・プレーヤーズ」などのボードが掲げられ、大きな拍手で選手たちの行動に賛同を示した。

NWSLでは、監督によるセクシャルハラスメントやパワーハラスメントなどが相次いで報告されており、9月28日にはワシントン・スピリット内でハラスメント防止ポリシーの違反が発覚し、リッチー・バーク監督が解任。10月1日にはノースカロライナ・カレッジのポール・ライリー監督が、「非常に深刻な不正行為」の疑惑により解雇されていた。

かつて日本を苦しめたアメリカ女子代表FWアレックス・モーガンが新規参入チームへ電撃移籍「スタートが待ちきれない」
