「キャプテンに任命してくれたことを永遠に感謝します」ベッカム氏が恩師エリクソン氏を追悼…自身に送られた最期の言葉明かす

元イングランド代表MFのデイビッド・ベッカム氏が、恩師であるスヴェン・ゴラン・エリクソン氏(享年76)を追悼した。

エリクソン氏は、クラブチームではベンフィカ、ローマ、フィオレンティーナ、サンプドリア、ラツィオ、マンチェスター・シティ、レスター・シティなどの指揮官を歴任。さらに、メキシコ代表、コートジボワール代表、フィリピン代表といった世界各国の代表チームも指揮した。

しかし、今年1月に膵臓がんを患っていることを告白。自身の余命が長くても1年ほどになると明かしていた。

そして、26日に同氏の家族は「スヴェン・ゴラン・エリクソンは亡くなりました。長い闘病生活の末、午前中に家族に囲まれ自宅で亡くなりました」と訃報を伝えていた。

そのフットボール界のレジェンドに対しては在籍クラブや各国協会、多くの教え子から追悼のメッセージが届いているなか、2001年から2006年までイングランド代表で指導を受け、キャプテンの大役も任されたベッカム氏が、自身のインスタグラムを通じて恩師に哀悼の意を表した。

ベッカム氏は最近のエリクソン氏との散歩の様子を映した動画と共に別れのメッセージを投稿。その際に恩師から最期に受け取った言葉についても明かした。

「私たちは笑い、泣き、別れを告げているのだとわかっていました…」

「スヴェン、いつも情熱的で、思いやりがあり、穏やかで、真の紳士でいてくれてありがとう…」

「キャプテンに任命してくれたことを永遠に感謝します。あなたとあなたの家族と過ごしたこの日の最後の思い出は永遠に心に残ります…。ありがとう、スヴェン。私への最後の言葉は『大丈夫だ』という言葉でした」

エリクソン氏は、イングランド代表を指揮した初の外国人監督としても知られ、2004年のユーロでは準々決勝までチームを導いた。

ベッカム氏は2000年、暫定監督のピーター・テイラーからイタリアとの親善試合で初めてイングランドのキャプテンに任命されると、エリクソン氏の就任後は正式なキャプテンに任命され、ドイツ相手の5-1の歴史的な勝利や、ワールドカップ予選のギリシャの勝利など、象徴的な思い出を共有していた。

ベッカム氏の次男ロメオが2度目の現役引退…今度は母ヴィクトリアさんと同じ道へ

元ユナイテッドSDがFAに復帰…新設のチーフ・フットボール・オフィサーに就任

元マンチェスター・ユナイテッドのスポーツディレクター(SD)、ダン・アシュワース氏が、イングランドサッカー協会(FA)に復帰することになった。 FAは14日、アシュワース氏が新設のチーフ・フットボール・オフィサーに就任すると発表。同職ではイングランド代表の男女チームと緊密に連携していくことになるという。昨年12月にユナイテッドのSDをわずか5カ月で退任したアシュワース氏。それ以前にはブライトン&ホーヴ・アルビオン、ニューカッスルで手腕を発揮しており、国内外のクラブからのオファーも想定されていたが、2018年まで6年間に渡って勤務していたFAに復帰することになった。アシュワース氏は、セント・ジョージズ・パークの再開発を監督し、2028年に開催されるユーロ2028の共催に向け、競技施設とピッチの改善を目指す。さらに、この新役職は、男子フットボールのテクニカルディレクターであるジョン・マクダーモット氏と緊密に連携するとともに、FAの最高経営責任者(CEO)であるマーク・ブリンガム氏とも連携する。また、イングランド国内の地元出身のコーチの育成にも携わる予定だという。 2025.05.15 16:30 Thu
