前半はスコア動かずハーフタイムを迎えると、後半開始直後に失点。FWニコ・ウィリアムズに決められてしまう。

それでも73分、途中出場のパーマーがMFジュード・ベリンガムから見事なコントロールショット。ゴール左隅に決め、試合を振り出しに戻す。

しかし、延長も見え始めていた81分、FWミケル・オヤルサバルに勝ち越しゴールを奪われ、再びスペインがリード。今度は追いつけないまま試合終了し、イングランドは2大会連続の準優勝に終わった。

今大会は途中出場からの出番のみに終わったものの、決勝で殊勲の同点弾を決めたパーマーは、試合後にコメント。スペインのチーム力を称え、欧州王者になれなかったことを悔やんだ。
