「メッシが受賞者になるはずがない」男子年間最優秀選手の選考にドイツのご意見番が異議「彼は最高のフットボーラーだが…」

男子年間最優秀選手に選出されたFWリオネル・メッシ

元ドイツ代表のローター・マテウス氏は、国際サッカー連盟(FIFA)が男子年間最優秀選手にアルゼンチン代表FWリオネル・メッシを選出したことを批判した。ドイツ『スカイ・スポーツ』が伝えている。

15日、FIFAは2023年度『ザ・ベスト・FIFAフットボールアウォーズ』の男女各賞受賞者を発表。対象期間は2022年12月19日～2023年8月20日となっており、2022年に行われたカタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)は対象外となっていた。

それもあり、男子年間最優秀選手にはマンチェスター・シティの3冠に貢献し、自身もプレミアリーグのシーズン歴代最多ゴールとなる36得点で得点王に輝いたFWアーリング・ハーランドの受賞が有力に。ところが、実際にはメッシが2年連続3度目の受賞に輝くことになった。

これについては異論の声も噴出。メッシは昨シーズンのパリ・サンジェルマン(PSG)で32試合16ゴール16アシストと素晴らしい成績を残しているがハーランドほどではなく、昨夏にメジャーリーグ・サッカー(MLS)のインテル・マイアミに加入してからは負傷もあって6試合1ゴール2アシストにとどまっていた。

マテウス氏もこの選出には異議を唱えており、メッシが最高の選手であることは認めつつも、今回はハーランドこそ受賞に相応しかったと主張している。

「メッシをバロンドール受賞者にさせたワールドカップの功績が除外されるのであれば、彼が今回の受賞者になるはずがないんだ。彼は過去20年、最高のフットボーラーだったと思うが、パリとマイアミでメジャータイトルを獲得していないのだから」

「主な成功について語るのならマンチェスター・シティ、ベストプレーヤーを選ぶならアーリング・ハーランドを避けては通れないだろう。彼はシティで最も重要なタイトルを獲得し、ゴール率も素晴らしい。最高の選手、最も重要な選手を選ぶのであれば、本来それが決め手になるはずだ」

メッシと妻は30年来の仲、幼馴染の2人が結ばれW杯で優勝するまで

メッシ加入で急上昇のインテル・マイアミ、費用1000億円超えの新スタジアム建設開始を発表完成は2025年予定
