「ハングリー精神がなかった」プレミア5連覇目指すも低迷したシティ、ハーランドが不振を語る「言い訳はあるけど…」

ハーランドは負傷離脱から復帰。タイトル確保へ

マンチェスター・シティのノルウェー代表FWアーリング・ハーランドが、今季の不振について言及した。

前人未到のプレミアリーグ5連覇を目指したシティ。しかし、シーズン当初から負傷者に悩み、チームの軸でもあるバロンドーラーのスペイン代表MFロドリが長期離脱し不安定さが増した。

チームは遅れをとり、近年稀に見る低迷を味わうことに。リバプールに優勝を譲ったものの、シーズン最終盤になり2位でのフィニッシュも見えている状況だ。

ハーランドは『ESPN』のインタビューで今シーズンを振り返り、チームに欠けていたものを語った。

「もちろん、言い訳やケガ、悪い時期の多くの負傷者などがあるけど、結局のところ、僕たちは十分なパフォーマンスを発揮できていないんだ」

「僕たちは内なるハングリー精神を十分に発揮できていない。僕自身も十分な力を発揮できていない。チームに貢献できていない。結局のところ、僕たちは十分な力を発揮できていないだけだ」

5連覇に向けたハングリー精神が欠けていたというハーランド。自身はプレミアリーグ28試合で21ゴールを記録。しかし、3月に負傷離脱し1カ月ほど離脱した。

なんとか復帰できる状態にまで回復したハーランドは「ケガをしたことは本当に辛かったけど、仕方ないことだ」とコメント。「できるだけ早く回復して、できる限り良い状態で復帰しないといけない。今はエネルギーに満ち溢れている。体調も良いし、動きも良い。準備は万端だよ」と語り、シーズン最後に復帰できることへ意欲を見せた。

2位のアーセナルとは勝ち点差「3」。残り3試合での逆転2位を目指すとともに、FAカップ優勝を果たせるか注目だ。

日本の若手俳優が写真集でまさかのハーランドの瞑想ポーズを披露!「絶対入れてほしいと強く言った写真」
