クロアチア代表からの引退も噂されるモドリッチが言及「決断についてはハッキリしている」

クロアチア代表MFルカ・モドリッチが、自身の去就についてすでに決断をしているようだ。スペイン『マルカ』が伝えた。

18日、UEFAネーションズ・リーグ(UNL)の決勝が行われ、クロアチアはスペイン代表と対戦した。

キャプテンとしてこの試合に先発したモドリッチ。優勝を目指すチームは、連覇を目指すスペインとの一戦となったが、苦しい試合に。互いに決定機を作りながらもゴールは生まれず、120分間が終了。PK戦の末、クロアチアは敗れ、準優勝に終わった。

所属するレアル・マドリーとの契約も6月末で満了を迎える中で、1年間は滞在する見込み。契約は間近だとされている。

一方で、クロアチア代表からの引退が囁かれており、この試合がラストマッチになるという可能性もあった。

フル出場を果たしたモドリッチ。クロアチア代表としてのタイトル獲得はまたしても目前で叶わなかった。

ワールドカップでは2018年のロシア大会で準優勝、2022年のカタール大会では3位に終わり、今回も2位に終わることに。個人としてもバロンドールやチャンピオンズリーグ(CL)優勝などクラブレベルで結果を残していただけに、足りないのは代表でのタイトルだった。

そのモドリッチは試合後、自身の去就を聞かれてコメント。「自分の決断についてはハッキリしている。でも、今日はそれを言うつもりはないよ」と、すでに決断しているものの、今は明かさないとした。

17年間にわたって代表チームで活動してきたモドリッチ。代表通算166試合24ゴールを記録。ユーロ2024までプレーするのか、注目が集まる。

「史上最悪」「恥ずかしい」伝統の市松模様が史上最大サイズになったクロアチアの新ユニフォームには酷評の嵐「これ以上酷いものは見たことがない」
