元ユナイテッドのアシュリー・ヤング、ビラと契約延長も? 衰え知らずの37歳は今季も15試合でフル出場

元イングランド代表DFアシュリー・ヤング(37)は、アストン・ビラとの契約を延長する可能性もあるようだ。

若かりし頃のアストン・ビラ時代に注目を集めたヤング。2011年7月に25歳でアストン・ビラからマンチェスター・ユナイテッドへ移籍すると、ユナイテッドでは通算261試合に出場し、キャプテンも務めた。その後はインテルでセリエA優勝を経験し、昨シーズンから古巣に帰ってきた。

契約は今年6月までとなっているものの、30代後半を迎えてもパフォーマンスに陰りは見えず、左右のサイドバックとして今シーズンの公式戦26試合に出場。うちスタメン出場は20試合を数え、15試合はフル出場している。

イギリス『フットボール・インサイダー』によると、首脳陣は今なお健在であるヤングとの契約を延長したい考え。シーズン終了後に話し合いが始まるとみられ、契約延長か退団かの最終決定をヤング側に委ねるつもりとのことだ。

今シーズン途中からチームを率いるウナイ・エメリ監督も地元メディアのインタビューでヤングの貢献度を称え、今年7月で38歳という年齢が契約延長に影響を与えないことを強調。ロッカールームを束ねるチーム最年長選手の残留を願っているという。

なお、今シーズン序盤戦は低空飛行を続けたアストン・ビラだが、昨年10月のエメリ監督就任後は巻き返しに成功し、プレミアリーグでは来シーズンのヨーロッパの舞台への参戦も視野に入る6位につけている。

これを見据えてか、今夏の大物選手獲得も考えているようで、2010-11シーズンの後半戦に半年間のみレンタル移籍で在籍していたマンチェスター・シティのイングランド代表DFカイル・ウォーカー(32)をリストアップしているとみられている。

「寄せすぎ」「コピーだ」アストン・ビラの新エンブレムがチェルシーに酷似?実は過去のデザインを踏襲したもの
