オーストラリアサッカー連盟(FFA)は30日、オーストラリア代表のグラハム・アーノルド監督(59)との契約延長を発表した。
契約期間は2026年の北中米ワールドカップ(W杯)が終了するまでとなる。
アーノルド監督は、現役時代にはサンフレッチェ広島でもプレー経験があり、引退後にはオーストラリア代表のアシスタントコーチに就任。2006年7月にフース・ヒディンク元監督の後任として暫定監督に就任した。
2007年12月にピム・ファーベク監督の下で再びアシスタントコーチに就任。その後、セントラルコースト・マリナーズで監督業を本格的にスタートさせた。
2014年2月にはベガルタ仙台の監督に就任も、わずか2カ月で解任。その後すぐにシドニーFCで指揮を執ると、2018年7月にオーストラリア代表監督に就任した。
カタールW杯のアジア予選では、11連勝を達成し史上初の快挙を達成するなど功績を残してきた。

20年目の最終日に白星も日本代表はピンチ!? 使用不可の可能性ある埼スタのW杯予選勝率は驚異の84%
7大会連続のW杯出場に向けて窮地に立たされていた日本代表。しかし、12日に行われたカタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)アジア最終予選のオーストラリア代表戦では2-1と勝利。予選11連勝中と敵なしだったオーストラリアに土をつけた。 その舞台となったのは、埼玉スタジアム2002。今大会の最終予選で初めて日本のサポーターが集まり、1万4437人の後押しを受けて見事に勝利を収めた。 2002年の日韓ワールドカップに向けて建設された埼スタは、これまでも日本代表の試合で数々の名試合が行われた場所でもある。改めて、その歴史をまとめて見た。 <span class="paragraph-title">◆20年目最後の日</span> 埼スタのこけら落としは、2001年10月13日。J1リーグの浦和レッズvs横浜F・マリノスの一戦でスタートする。日本最大のサッカー専用スタジアムとして、浦和の本拠地としてだけでなく、日本サッカーを支える場所となって20年が経過。冒頭の日本vsオーストラリアの一戦は、奇しくも20年目最後の日に開催された。 日本代表の試合が初めて行われたのは、こけら落としからおよそ1年後の2002年11月20日。キリン・チャレンジカップのアルゼンチン代表戦だった。 エルナン・クレスポやファン・セバスティアン・ヴェロン、ハビエル・サネッティなど、当時の主軸が揃った一戦。日本は日韓W杯を戦ったメンバーが中心だったが、0-2で敗れた。 <span 大久保嘉人(セレッソ大阪)や遠藤保仁(ジュビロ磐田)らが出場した試合は、格下相手に1-0と薄氷の勝利。勝利へと導いたゴールは三都主アレサンドロが決めていた。 当時はかつての国立競技場が健在で、そちらをメインに日本代表の試合が開催。埼スタはメインとしてはあまり使われていなかった。 そんな中、埼スタが日本代表にとって重要な位置付けになっていったのがドイツW杯の予選。当時日本代表を率いていたジーコ監督は1次予選で6連勝を達成。そのうちの3試合が埼スタで行われたが、埼スタでの最初の予選勝利は、今大会で同組となっているオマーン代表。久保竜彦のゴールで1-0と勝利した。 そこから埼スタでのW杯予選連勝街道が始まると、ドイツW杯予選で合計5試合、南アフリカW杯予選で4試合、ブラジルW杯予選で5試合、ロシアW杯予選では9試合と毎年のようにW杯予選が埼スタで行われ、大会を追うごとに開催試合数が増えているのがわかる。 無敗を継続した日本は、引き分けも2008年のウズベキスタン代表戦と2015年のシンガポール戦の2 試合のみ。埼スタでの試合は勝利するという空気感も連勝街道を後押ししたはず。負けられないW杯予選での使用回数が増えたのも納得だろう。 そんな埼スタで初めて黒星を喫したW杯予選は、2016年9月1日に行われたロシアW杯アジア最終予選初戦のUAE代表戦。本田圭佑のゴールで先制した日本だったが、その後の2失点で1-2で敗れた。W杯予選においては、この試合が唯一の埼スタでの黒星となっている。 <span 2011年9月2日に行われたブラジルW杯アジア3次予選では、現キャプテンのDF吉田麻也が後半アディショナルタイムにヘディングシュートを叩き込み、1-0で勝利を収めていた。 2008年6月22日に行われた南アフリカW杯アジア3次予選のバーレーン戦も、90分に内田篤人のゴールが決まり1-0の勝利。土壇場での勝利が多いのも“聖地”ならではかもしれない。勝ってはいないが、2013年6月4日、ブラジルW杯最終予選のオーストラリア戦も、終盤に先制を許して敗色濃厚の中、90分に本田がPKをど真ん中に蹴り込み、引き分けに持ち込んでW杯出場を決めた。 ファンの熱気も高まる埼スタは日本代表にとっての“聖地”となり、これまでのW杯予選での戦績は25試合を戦い、21勝3分け1敗で勝率は驚異の84%を誇る。日本に敗れたオーストラリアのグラハム・アーノルド監督は敗因について「何が違ったかというと、大勢のファンがいたことだと思う。日本はこの3試合それがなく、今回の試合に関して日本はエネルギーを必要としていた。それを味方にできたと思う」と語っていた。相手にとっても、嫌なイメージがあるスタジアムとなっている。 日本戦で直接FK弾のフルスティッチ、同僚の鎌田大地ではないユニフォーム交換相手は誰?

元オーストラリア代表DFのレイバット氏が遺体で発見…99年にベルマーレ平塚でプレー
ベルマーレ平塚でもプレーした元オーストラリア代表DFスティーブン・レイバットさん(46)が遺体で発見された。 オーストラリア『シドニー・モーニング・ヘラルド』によると、レイバットさんは13日に家族から行方不明届が出されていたとのこと。12日に友人を訪ねるため、南東部シドニーから東部ブリスベン近郊のバイロン・ベイへ向かったものの、13日午前には家族と連絡が取れなくなっていたという。 地元警察が大規模な捜索を行った結果、14日夜にバイロン・ベイからほど近いビーチ近くの低木林でレイバットさんの遺体が発見されたとのこと。現段階で死因や事件性の有無は公式には発表されていないものの、事件性は低いとみられている。 レイバットさんは2000年のシドニー五輪にU-23オーストラリア代表として参加し、2000〜2004年にかけてはA代表で15試合出場。クラブキャリアでは1999年に短期間ながらもベルマーレ平塚(現:湘南ベルマーレ)でプレーし、オランダのフェイエノールト、ベルギーのヘントなどにも在籍経験を持つ。 引退後は「現役時代にそんなことはできなかった」として2021年に同性愛をカミングアウト。同年には、病院のリハビリ病棟に勤務するなか、腎臓移植によって高齢男性の命を助けていた。 レイバットさんの訃報を受け、元オーストラリア代表DFルーク・ウィルクシャー氏など、多くの関係者が哀悼の意をSNSなどで表明している。 2024.01.15 13:30 Mon
