レンヌのGKスティーブ・マンダンダ(37)がフランス代表からの引退を表明した。すでにフランス『レキップ』が報じていた中で、マンダンダ本人からその意向が明かされた。

「今朝、報道を見てびっくりしたよ。でも、確かにそれは本当のことだ。カタールW杯終了後に決めたことだ」「フランス代表で素晴らしい経験をすることができた。私ももう37歳、若者たちに任せようと思う。これでウーゴ(ロリス)と一緒に丸く収めることができるよ」

「このような中で生きてきたことに誇りと感慨を覚える。今日、フランス代表は私のために寄り添ってくれた。ウーゴと話し合って同じ結論に達したんだ」

「私にとっては理屈ではなく、いろんな季節を生きてきたし、年齢も重ねてきた。その瞬間、ここで止まるのが自然のことだったのだ」

2008年5月のエクアドル代表との親善試合でフランス代表デビューしたマンダンダ。一時レ・ブルーの守護神を務めた時期もあったが、ウーゴ・ロリスが台頭して以降はセカンドGKという立ち位置となった。

それでもフランス代表の常連であり続け、2020年11月に行われた親善試合のフィンランド代表戦ではキャプテンマークも巻いた。そして、チュニジア代表戦に出場した先のカタール・ワールドカップを含め、W杯は3大会、ユーロは4大会出場し、通算では35キャップを数えた。

そして、マンダンダのコメントにもあるように、すでに代表引退を宣言しているロリスとともに、2人の偉大なGKがレ・ブルーに別れを告げることになった。

「心が張り裂けそう」ドーピング違反で4年間の出場停止処分が下ったポグバが真っ向から否定「故意に摂取したことはない」「控訴するつもりだ」

大会公式は谷川萌々子を注目選手に!U-19日本女子がフランスでのSUD Ladies Cupに臨む
